Where to find the serial

The serial is printed on the label on the radio case and starts with VWZ (14 characters, e.g. VWZ1Z2B1234567). Many cars also came with a radio code card in the owner’s wallet – check there first. Full walkthrough: how to find your radio serial number.

How to enter the code

On most VW radios of this generation the preset buttons 1–4 set the four code digits; confirm as described in your owner’s manual (often by holding the last button or pressing the seek arrows together). If the display shows SAFE and does not react, leave the radio and ignition on for about an hour until it asks for the code again (locked radio help).
